We're thrilled to announce that Collarts has signed a three-year partnership with the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF).
MIFF is a not-for-profit organisation that has been continuously running since 1952, making it the leading film festival in Australia and one of the world’s oldest film festivals, alongside Cannes and Berlin. Presenting a curated global program of innovative screen experiences and the world’s largest showcase of exceptional Australian filmmaking, MIFF is an accessible, iconic cultural event that provides transformative experiences for audiences and filmmakers alike. This collaboration offers amazing opportunities for our students, further cements our reputation in the arts and entertainment space, and reinforces our commitment to providing hands-on experiences in the film and media industries. Here's everything you need to know about our new partnership:
One of the most exciting aspects of our partnership is that Collarts will be the presenting partner of the MIFF Schools Jury Award. This award is decided by a jury of Victorian high school students selected through Top Screen, who will review and critique films during the festival. The winning film receives a $10,000 cash prize, which Collarts will present at the MIFF Awards ceremony, in front of some of the most influential names in the film industry. Moreover, we will be hosting mentorship sessions on our campus for the student jury members, providing them with invaluable insights into the world of film and media. This is an opportunity to engage with emerging talent and offer them guidance as they begin their journeys in the film industry. "Through this partnership, three emerging filmmakers commencing their screen career will develop invaluable experience as Jury members for the coveted $10,000 Award. We hope that the advice and mentorship offered to the Jury members by Collarts provides meaningful professional development. MIFF is committed to supporting pathways into our screen industry, and we are excited that the partnership extends to internships and advocacy for Collarts Screen & Media and Event Management courses."
Continuing the tradition from last year, our Screen and Media team will produce a 15-30 second campaign video to promote Collarts, which will be showcased at major MIFF screenings, including MIFF schools screenings and regional programs. This is a fantastic platform for our creative teams to show off their skills and connect with a wider audience. We can't wait to see what our talented Screen & Media team creates this year!

Our partnership with MIFF opens the door to a wealth of internship opportunities. One lucky Screen and Media student will be chosen to intern with the festival operations team during MIFF, gaining hands-on experience and building invaluable connections in the industry.
Collarts will be seen in many more areas across the festival, including seeing our Screen and Media academics participate in the Accelerator Lab, presenting on panels, serve on juries, or engage with industry professionals and the public in various capacities. This empowers our academics to share their knowledge and engage with the ever evolving film industry, while further creating meaningful experiences and connections to inspire our students and enhance their career prospects. Additionally, MIFF representatives will visit Collarts to talk to our students about the ins-and-outs of film festivals, what critics are looking for, and potential career paths.
Overall, this partnership with MIFF is a fantastic opportunity for Collarts and our students.
